I have a titanium heater in my biocube, a Finnex, so I'll probably order another one of those for the mantis tank.

Once I start getting some supplies I'll take pics and start a build thread, it'll be 2-4 months before I'm able to set it up and get going since I have to find a house and move first :p

So my list so far is:

    Heater
    Filter
    Skimmer
    Lighting

I have no idea how to figure out sizing, I know it has to be actinic only but does anyone have any recommendations for a fixture that would fit my tank? Do you just pick something thats the same size as the length of the tank? What about good brands?

Also for lighting, I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Peacock but if I decide to get a purple spot do they also need actinic only?

I am not sure on the lighting requirement for the actual Mantis, but what about one of the LED light sets such as:

Marineland Double Bright LED Light Fixture

Save some energy and the cost of replacement. If you are not growing coral it might be more then sufficient.

Smithii (purple spot) will tolerate full spectrum lighting.

Sorry I can't recommend a good brand fixture. I would just get something cheap. I use a petco brand t8 fixture on my mantis tank.

not trying to jack this thread but is a 20gal tank that is plumbed into a larger 100gal system sufficient for one mantis?

I wanted to start getting the tank going soon but I went to look at Stomatopod.com and it looks like they're gone

Yep stomatopod.com is no more. That leaves your best option for a peacock as Live Aquaria, and bluezooaquatics.com for smithiis. sealifeinc.net has O. havanensis in stock which I highly recommend. ;D
