Unfortunately my camera is out of commission, but for the time being I'd really appreciate some advice based on this description of slugs I discovered on newer LR:

The largest slug is 1 cm wide, 2 cm long. It is black-brown in color with white markings down the back that may be spiny. There are two antennae and one long proboscis...these are light brown in color. There is a juvenile of the same species in there, too, that appears more whitish. They mostly graze the live rock. The width tapers to the rear, and they sort of appear to be hump-backed.

Any insights would be much appreciated! Do I need to pull these out? Thanks! Todd

Stomatella snail. They're great and they'll breed in your aquarium providing free coral food, and cleanup crew!

Hi-I did a google search and I feel that this is probably it. Thanks to those who replied to my post. I seem to have a black variety and a white variety.

I looked through the "stickies" in this forum before posting, and didn't find this animal listed in among the LR hitchhikers. Maybe I overlooked it, but if this animal is indeed absent from the stickies, it might be valuable to list it there for new 3Reef subscribers (like me) to find easily.

    Many thanks! Todd

I would definitely say Stomatella like JasonSquared stated.

    Hi Dustin,

I don't recognize the white animal, but the black one is a Scutus species, probably Scutus unguis. It's in the same family as keyhole limpets, and would look like this if the mantle were withdrawn:

    Scutus (Scutus) unguis

Most people consider them reef safe.

    Cheers,

    Don

i was thinking it was a majano, but was not sure.
The black thing has two little antennas and kind of looks like a sea slug but not exactly.
