I bought a coral recently and it was identified by the seller as a cyphastrea, but it does not look like any I can find on the net. It looks more like a type of chalice. Any assistance is and will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Steve, it definitely has that kind of look. I can tell that it appears to grow and inflate somewhat like a chalice but the polyps are definitely unique to what I have seen.

The pic isn't too clear, being washed out and all, so it's kinda hard to tell.

    My guess: Echinopora.

    New pic

Yeah I have it placed in a spot where it is hard to get a good clear pic, plus my lights seem to wash out the colors a little unless the object is on a lighter colored spot. Here is another pic. I pulled the coral to the front of the tank.

I was hoping you would pop in. I have a better looking pic in the previous post.

Thanks, the polyps look highlighter yellow in the tank.
Remarkable what happens when you move the coral to the front of your tank and use the super macoo mode in the camera.

It's a Canon PowerShot SX20IS. It only took me about 500 pics before I got to where I could get the real good shots once in a while.

    Very pretty Echinopora, friend.

Please, pay attention and DO remember what I'm going to say to you today:

Will you let me know as soon as you think of fragging it? I'll buy you a little chunk of it for sure! :)
