French designers Mathieu Lehanneur and Anthony van den Bossche's "Local River" ecosystem combines aquaculture and hydroponics with beautiful aquariums that are glass-blown and thermoformed. Local River highlights a growing demand for locally provided food. The plants provide filtration for water and the fish provide fertilizer for the plants creating a "DIY fish-farm-cum-kitchen-garden." The large model costs $15,990. The small model costs $9,900. Hmm.. that's a lot of cabbage. But they are beautiful.

Local River responds to everyday needs for fresh food that is 100% traceable. It bets on a return to favour of farm-raised freshwater fish (trout, eel, perch, carp, etc...), given the dwindling supplies of many saltwater species due to over-fishing.

    Yeah no kidding.

It wouldn't look nearly as cool but you could DIY this with some water-cooler jugs and a spare aquarium.

The real question is are those snakes or eels in the smaller tank?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The real question is would any FEMALE on this planet allow what appears to indeed live eels to partake in her home furnishings and decorating.

While I find if extremely interesting I doubt I am in the majority. ;D

Recently I have seen similar set ups with less eww factor. I shall look for them and post.
