I am new to coral and have a question...can worm rock be used in a coral tank in place of or as live rock? I have worm rock that i collected from beaches along the east coast of Florida after storms. Doesit work the same way as live rock?

I would say no. It doesn't have enough surface area to sustain bacteria. Plus I don't know how the water is over in that area. If there is a lot of traffic I wouldn't use it because it can pollute your tank or worse cause it to crash unless you have just a Florida tank where you use the water and what you collect all in one tank.
