I'm building a 30"x12"x24" 40 gallon reef tank. I plan on putting LPS and SPS corals in it. I've done some research on the 120W chinese dimmable LEDs, and right now I'm leaning toward this fixture, but do I need one or two? I have a 12" hood where I will be placing it.

yea it will be good. People put 2 of them on 75 or 90s and do fine. So 1 should be plenty on a 40gal.

I am leaning towards the reef breeder rgb for my 40gal breeder coral tank. Just because the diff colors will make the corals pop more! and also it has bridgelux leds which are a pretty reputable brand. not sure what leds are in the taotronics fixtures.

awesome info. looking at rapid led, might build a 24 led setup, would that be enough for lps in a breeder?

I mean, honestly will probably be more expensive, and have less watts. With the fixture i linked to you could grow basically any and all corals. And with the multiple color leds your tank will look amazing. But i have heard great things about rapidled dont get me wrong. I am not an expert on leds but i think that might be enough, depends on how many watt per led.
