I am in the process of setting up a 10 foot long tank 300 acrylic gallon tank. For lighting I am going to use two four foot T5 fixtures and then supplement LEDs. I am trying to avoid hanging the lights, so what I want to do is set the lights on top of the tank. The problem is that I don't want to have the mounting legs putting weight on the cutouts of the bracing. So does anyone know of any kind adjustable mounting kit that would go across the width of the tank that I could use to set the lights on? I was thinking of fabricating something out of acrylic square rod but I wanted to see if there are any products available that would allow me to accomplish this easier.

I made mine out of 2x4 and 4x4s. I painted it black and I think it looks good. This is just an option. I to didn't want to hang my light from the ceiling and this is what I came up with. Just a suggestion. Might not be what your looking for but hope it helps.
    Pic for reference.

That looks good, but I think my tank is too long for something like that.

Have some bracing attached to back of stand that comes up back of tank & above. Then have a horizontal bracket come over tank to mount light to.

Reefer bob has a god idea. I like that type of set up.

I don't think the 10' would be a problem. They make 10' sticks of 2x4 and 4x4s. And t5 fixtures ad LEDs aren't heavy at all. IMPE.

Reefer kinda described how my LED's are hung over my 6ft tank.
Actually, I DIY'd a sort large 'H' the stands on the floor behind my DT, and there are hangers that come out so that the lights hang in the center, and it has a clothes rod on it, so I can move them side to side if I want.

No more acidentally knocking my lights in my DT!! Yea

I ain't hanging anything from the ceiling in MY family room-
the ceiling over my tank is 18 feet tall!

I've seen this type of brackets on tanks that use pendant lighting. It really gives it a clean look. And keeps lights & brackets out of way for when doing maintenance on the tank. I've never liked using brackets that sit on a tank. It feels like I'm gonna knock the light off. I'll hang from a ceiling before using brackets.
