    I just made my moonlight I used 16 6000mcd 470nm leds.i took me about a hour to construct and 4.75 dollars for materials.power adapter and other stuff i had laying aroud.i will post pictures later.

    I bought 3 led fixtures from http://autolumination.com, stuck them to some acrylic mounts (2"x5" pieces of 1/4" acrylic, bent at a 45 degree angle), attached them to the back lip of my tank with some velcro and wired them to a 12v transformer. I don't have a canopy, so I've had issues with all of my prior DIY attempts at moonlighting! Here's a pic to get a better idea:

    The lights are between the PVC outlets.

    The fixtures are pre-wired, waterproof and come with 2-sided tape already installed for $4.99 each (3 led model). These generate a great amount of light and look awesome! The lights are available in 3, 8 or 24 LED fixtures.
