I use aquaray led lighting units made by tmc & think they are fab! I have mush, star, button palp, tourch coral & ridicorda mush under mine & they are spreading like made & love the light. I dont have a down side to them yet but alot off people are sceptical about them & would rather stick to traditional lighting then take a risk on something new. As with most stuff in marine & reef tanks its personal opinion so you get the good & bad sides off things....... I started a thread about my great led lights just giving my opinion & info on them & someone told me to stop pushing my veiw onto others.... but hopefull you get the good advice you would like & make your owm mind up.
I live in the uk MH are very exspensive to buy & also a nice looking t-5 luminair cost a bomb ( you can get them on the cheap but they look cheap!) & the running cost like electirc has gone through the roof so i can across tmc led lighting units (they have a website but dont no how you get a link up!) They are a very good company in the uk ..... I think tmc stand for tropical marine company but i could be wrong. They specialise in fish... have there own marine breeding system & make there own marine products but do sell other makes to. There website is great so google it & take a look they have great info on there solid state lighting units (leds).
They are very cheap to run , dont produce alot off heat , look great & dont cost a bomb £380 for 4 led lighting strips.

    Hope this helps

I am not, but it is interesting. LED puts out the same Kelvin as MH's, draws considerably less electricity and throws considerably less heat. A MH bulb is lasting 6-12 months and an LED bulb holds its spectrum for about 11 years.

The LED disbursement of light is better than that of a MH too. They *appear* to beat MH on all fronts.

However, the picture that Matt posted in early May is much too blue for my taste.

I run a 48" solaris. Has been on the tank for about 6-7 months. I have mushrooms, lps, zoas, anenome, sps, and 2 clams. All of them have been growing great, it just doesn't make the sps look as colorful as a mh. I thouht it was the corals that were losing color but I have took out a frag of the green slimmer and put it under mh and it was greener than ever. Besides that the tank stays at a constant 78 degrees all the time.

I wish I had the money for an LED, the 36" I was looking at was a couple of thousand dollars!
