hey guys, so my reef radiance dm-155e should be arriving this week or early next week. They dont have the tank mounts out for these yet, and there's no way i can hang these. I know I can make my own tank mounts, but I really don't have the time for that at this moment. Would putting the LED's on a piece of glass or plexi glass (acrylic) do it? which is better?

I know light doesn't diffuse as much with acrylic, but I'm worried about the acrylic heating up and bending. What thickness would I get to prevent the acrylic from breaking or bending, while having good light diffusion? here's a link to the lights, just in case you guys wanted specs of size.

A friend of mine has his cresting on glass lids while I build him a canopy.

Any chance you can find out how thick it is?

I don't think that bending the acrylic from heat will be a problem but you do want enough air circulation so that the leds do not overheat which can shorten their life.

What I can do is get a piece of acrylic and 2 small pieces of egg crate. I can use the 2 small piece of egg crate to prop up the fixture (put them in between the fixture and the acrylic) so I get airflow in the leds

Home Depot or Lowes. Should be $15-20 for a 24"x48" sheet of it in the lighting section.

IMO acrylic would be prone to warping.

I have my reefbreeders value fixtures sitting on glass top. No problems.
