    my favourite method is to
have a large basin or bucket of tank water ready
remove coral from DT after allowing it to close down 1st ( turning lights off, and gently brushing it will cause polyps to retract)

put coral in basin or bucket
lift it out to cut the frags you want
then return to bucket for a few minutes

the coral will slime up when fragged, and by doing it outside of the tank, then rinsing in a bucket of tank water, you can keep a large amount of this slime out of the DT

it will still slime a bit for a while when you put it, and the cut frags back into the DT

in or out of the water, just do like was suggested above and get a seperate container full of tank water I wouldnt try to do it in the tank and yes it will make slime and after being fragged may shed its slime coating once back in the tank but dont worry it should recover fairly quickly and look good as new
