I have had my leather coral for about a yr. It has continuously grown and been well.

I have been noticing lately that there are white patches appearing.
It is completely open and polyp extension up until yesterday.

The only thing changed has been my light. I changed to Ai Prime and did a water change yesterday- the polyps were closed yesterday.

The white patches appeared prior to the light change.

Does anyone know if this is a sign of decline in leathers?

    My params:

    1.026
    78 temp
    Alk 8
    Ca 400
    Mag 1200
    Nitrates less than 5
    Phos 0

I do weekly waterchanges, top up daily, test weekly, everything else in the tank is good.

Hi there sounds more unlikely your new lighting is too strong for it at the moment try acclimation say 50% the of your lighting for a few weeks if you can't do that just turn down your lighting specially the whites and gradually build it back up over a few weeks .
I would also like to add The star polyps can also Sting the softy causing the edges to go white and close up.

I have the ai at 30%

The white started when the Ai wasn't up and running.

I was wondering if it could be the gsp but its not touching it

Most soft corals, mushrooms, and polyps don't sting at all, they release toxins into the water column to deter other species from encrouching their territory, so yes, it very well could be the gsp that's causing the issue. I don't believe your leather is damaged, but it certainly looks irritated.

Also keep an eye on those bottom polyps in the first picture they can spread like wildfire and can definitely Sting.

I have carbon running 24/7 to help reduce any chemical warfare.

Those button polyps started with 4- and they keep growing:)
Whats odd, the gsp didn't spread forever and have spread amongst the polyps and onto them and neither has been effected which I was certain 1 would win over the other.

This leather had a temperament for mnths and finally had it happy for 3 mnthd straight.
I had this white patch months ago on just 1 tip and it fell apart upon examining the leather and all was well...now its back!

Some think its low alk but mine is stable at 8 or nitrates which mine are never higher than 5?

I love leathers but they are a guessing game coral.

Well the leather closed up and waxed over for 2 weeks. Its finally open but not acting or looking normal.

There is a nice pink to it but the white streaks are worse and in some areas the polyps are out and not in other areas.

Its no longer touching the gsp and areas it wasn't touched is white.

My tank params are pretty stable, water change/maintenance is spot on.

Trying to locate leather diseases and I simply don't see anything like this.

Its attached to a rock thats glued down- not sure what to do at this point.

    For flow:

    Filter 100gph
    Hydor 420
    Sicce 530

    Is this too much?

Lighting Ai Prime at 38% right now 14,500k
