My toadstool is growing out of the water now, the stalk is attached to a rock on the sandbed and it grew up and attached to other rocks too, it's too tall now and leaning over into the powerhead. This is an old pic, but you get the idea, I've fragged the top before but never the stalk, should I cut it? Will the stalk grow a new head, if so can I cut it up into multiple pieces?

I don't think the stalk alone would survive. It would need a few polyps. However, If you just cut the stalk in half and discarded the lower half..you could reattach the upper half to a rock.

Actually, yes, if you cut the head off the stalk it will grow a new one.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I'll be cutting it this wknd. I wish I had a frag tank, I think I'll get a light and setup maybe a 10g frag tank and plumb it into my existing system.

once you cut the top off you can then cut the crown into pie shaped pieces and attach them to rubble rock and they will all form new colonies

I probably wouldn't cut it up too much. It took me over a year to grow it that big, I don't feel like starting all over again, but I will try cuting the stalk up into multiple pieces. When the top attaches to a rock and it's doing good I might snip a few pieces off, I've done that before.
