I see alot of interest in L.E.D.s. I happen to use L.E.D.'s too and have had good success with them. So I wanted to share a little of my experience with them. My corals grow and the color looks great. The ones I get come in two main sizes, the 60watt is equivalent to a 250watt metal halide and the 90watt is about equivalent to 360watts of metal halide. They also make bigger sizes but I have never ordered those I like to just get multiple smaller sizes(easier to deal with). Its a good price for both cause if you were to buy LEDs here in US the price would be way more then metal halide units, but the price for these are actually less. For example a 400watt metal halide pendant with ballast is at its cheapest around $350 and for the 90watt L.E.D. fixture is like $300. Here are some of the benefits:

    1) 1/8 of metal halide power usage.
    2) Less Heat created
    3) Better Color Temperature
    4) No external Ballast(all internal so no big heavy ballasts)
    5) They have buttons where you can reduce the light output by half(cool
    feature)
    6) They have internal fans that helps move the air around.
    7) Because less heat output, chiller will come on less and that will save
    you energy and money.
    8) LED bulbs can last for up to 10years were Regular bulbs last 6 months.

Hope you guys enjoyed the info.

    MH Vs LED

Hands down T5's and LEDs are the way to go. I think MH are just a waste of time and money. in the summer months if you dont have air it sky rockets the temp of the tank while the MH only help buy adding more heat to the water. To reverse the effect you need a chiller system and fans in the canopy to correct the issue. also im not a huge fan on canopies either :p

So maybe you can make an educated guess for me.? What would a 1 watt LED compare to?

A general but not exact rule of thumb for the L.E.D. lights I get at least is:

1watt L.E.D. x 4= wattage of regular metal halide lighting.

Holy Crow! I reallly hope the Tetra 24w is even half that! Just picked up the half moon system at a steal but cant find any charts for output on the LED's they use in the light.

That'd be 4 X 24=96/10=9.6 watts per gallon. God could I be so lucky??

Thats alot for a 10 gallon tank haha. Like I said that is based on my L.E.D.'s. I havnt seen some of the others but I know the L.E.D.s that are used in mine are big ... not like other led bulbs ive seen.
