OK, apparently, my snails like to commit suicide. How can I keep them IN the tank? Before I covered my tank, I'd find them on the floor. Now I got the bio cube with a tight fitting lid, I'd find them wedging themselves in the top, out of water, suffering a slow, dry death before I find them next.

It's become routine now to open the lid, pluck the snails back into the water.

Any ideas how to prevent them from killing themselves like this? Or is it something I have to put up with?

Very odd. Seems to me there's something wrong with the water and they are trying to get out.

What type of snails? Nerites will try to crawl out of your tank.

Nerites are intertidal. We have a ton of them in tidepools here on the souther oregon coast. They bake in the sun (when we have sun) out of the water at low tide for hours, then they are covered by the cold, cold Pacific Ocean. They are not really suited to our tanks.

Ditch the nerites and stay with the others you have.

Nerites have no eyes so they don't know they are going the wrong way. Mine take a free fall every once in a while and i just put them back on my rocks.
