A good friend of mine, as well as many others I know, have a school of yellow tangs. I am upgrading tanks in the near future and will be moving my dad's one sailfin tang into this 300g but he has expressed an interest in keeping a school of sailfins... They are the same genus as yellow tangs so I am thinking that it will be similar to keeping a school of them.

I plan on getting a few more sailfins that are small to medium adults.
What are your guys honest thoughts or opinions/experiences.

I'm not sure on behaviour/aggression. But that would be be very cool! I have always thought it would be cool to have a school of tangs. But a larger tang like a sailfin would be even better; yellows are pretty common.

I think you'll be fine. I agree with you on sticking to the same genus. A buddy of mine had a mixture of species in a 225. I think he had 8 or 9 of them. I was absolutely amazed that they weren't fighting. Then he added one more tang and it changed the whole mix. Tangs that previously didn't mind each other became aggressive overnight.

How many sailfins are you going to add to this tank?

and when can we see pictures of the 300 gallon set up?

Well I believe the recommendation is odd numbers if I remember correctly... But I will have to do some looking into how people get yellow tangs to school. So that puts me at either 3 or 5 sailfins, but I will probably go with 3 :)

And trust me guys, I know the pics are the most important! I will have a build thread on the way... But first we have to finish up painting and decorating the basement!

that would be very beautiful! But also probably a little more tricky than sailfins ;)

    This sounds great, Dingo.

Not so difficult in a 3000g tank. :)
