I have had the Remora for over a year and I remember that noise leaving after a few weeks and you should not have any microbubbles if your water level is high enough. I have no bubbles

How high should the water level be?

I bought one used and I really like it. Mine isn't really that loud. It's hanging on my sump now but when it was on my DT I didn't really notice it being loud. I run my cup all the way down and get a dark green wet skimmate. I usd to have it hgher and I never got a dry skimmate. I figure if I run it all the way down I pull more out but I just need to empty the cup more often.

My water level is about 1/2 from top of tank. Keep the cup on the bottom so it gets as much gunk out as possible.

I will raise the level up then and see.. as far as cup height I have it over halfway up, and I get some dark nasty stuff..

I don't think the actual hieght of the water level really matters much as long as the drainledge touches the water. If the drain ledge is over the tanks surface water and falling into the tank you will get a lot more bubbles. My tank water level goes just about a 1/4" over the bottom of the drain ledge. Basically you don't want the water free falling into the tank.

My drain level is almost an inch into the tank. Sometimes I get microbubbles, and then sometimes barely any.. idk
