i just got some live rock and i hear that i can just rinse it out and add to my tank and let it cycle. my tank has only been cycling for 6 days with live sand and 30 pounds of cured live rock. will this affect anything? so confused please help. somebody told me to rinse it in freshwater for 2-3 day then leave it in the sun for 2 weeks.:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: wont freshwater kill the bacteria in the rock. i thought you would rinse in saltwater, brush off dead matter on rocks, rinse again then add to tank and let it cycle for about a month or so.

If you want to, you can rinse it in salt water and brush off the dead stuff then throw it in your tank, or just throw it in your tank. Definately do not soak your rock in freshwater and leave in the sun. Your LR will become dead rock and all the $ you spent on LR was a waste.

you can rinse the live rock in fresh water and gently scrub any dead things off it..also look for hitchhikers :).. i use a gentle brush or unused toothbrush..

If the LR is actually live (wet), then do what X said above. Take water params before too.

+1 I would just swish each piece in a 5 gal bucket of salt water to remove any loose dead stuff and then add it to the tank.

if you want to remove some of the hitch hikers, IME place the rock on a plastic sheet or in empty buckets (no water) and let the rock sit out (in house not outside) for an hr and you should get some the un-wanted pests off like crabs and bristles.
