I had a friend who ran a 6000. He was looking for something stronger than the Eheim 1260 that he was using. He said the DC6000 was no stronger than the Eheim. Considering the Ehim is 3000 lph, that certainly explained why it was so energy efficient. I think the new generation pumps are much more reliable than the original but I'm not so sure if the flow numbers are even in the ballpark of their claimed flow.

Yes, I'm running a DC 12,000- for about a year now.

I did have a power pack go out on me- it's a ac/dc power pack like on a laptop computer- this one puts out 24v max though.
Since that replacement- no problems, the flow always seems to be the same.
I judge this b/c I don't have to reset my siphon line on my returns once it's set.

As far as flow, does it put out 12,000 lph @ 0' head?- I dunno
I do know it's getting good flow @ 10' head though!

Iv got a mag 9.5 on mine now so anything that can get to 1000GPH or better is plenty. I think I know what I want for the next reef purchase lol

My suggestion is to go bigger because they can be run slower
