I once had a dual 175 setup on my 90... and am missing it now that I have a Nova T5.... no shimmering and no shadows....

I noticed they are no where near as abundant as they were a few years ago on ebay and other sites.. anyone know of a great place to look for a retro kit to put in my canopy that is not so expensive?

I would look at LED's as well - you will get the shimmer, can control the lighting better, and about 40-50% of the energy consumption...plus no heat issues. I went LED from MH about 2 years ago and would never go back. If you are going to invest - might as well invest for the future.

Thanks guys.. I keep looking at LED as well but I know they don't give that same POP as MH bulbs do but LEDs do look nice too

I really want to go back to MH. I've never seen that ethereal, perfect light reproduced by another source. As much as I love my current LED/t5 combo, I think MH is still king.

MH > T5's > LED's in that order. (This is my opinion)

    I still run MH.

T5s grow coral really well. I would keep them and add LEDs. Good combination, IMO.

I thought about keeping the T5 and adding two spotlights with a 10k bulbs

I don't think I've posted about this on 3reef, but I did go back to MH after running LEDs for several years. I missed them too much, and the difference I'm seeing now is eye opening. Corals I've had for years are turning back to the vibrant colors they once were, and the colors I had forgoten under their slow fade with LEDs. I am still running Royal Blue LEDs alongside the MHs.
