Is my pH the culprit???

    Technically yes, I'd add it in 5 gallon incriments or if your mixing your own saltwater then just mix it a little heavy on the water changes, say like a 1.028 and change 5g to see what it brings your total system up to

    Holy Moley!

    I just got in the mail my refractometer and digital pH tester...

    Ready for this...
    My salinity was 1.026!!! Not 1.022 like the hydrometer repeatedly showed!!

    Digital pH tester showed 7.9...
    that backs up the API tester which I read as 7.8 (although the colors are difficult differentiate some times)

    On my next water change... I will lower the salinity by one notch...
    but the tank is playing ball thus far...
    Let this be another reminder for everyone: Toss AWAY your hydrometers! They're trash!

    I wouldn't worry about 1.026 just dont make it go higher intentionally, should be fine though
