I was given this acro to see how it would do in my tank. It is my first acro so if my question is stupid don't laugh... Is it okay for the base to be white? It looks bleached. I have a Birdsnest and a monti that are doing great so I'm not sure if this is normal.

Is there any type of polyp extension or visibility of polyps on the white part?

On some parts yes but most is pure white and looks like just the skeleton.

It looks like RTN to me, but if there is still PE, it might just be bleaching due to stress in a new environment.

To kills two birds with one stone, I was just about to post the same. I have a reddish purple acro with green polyps which are little dots everywhere. I have been keeping an eye on it and the coral had been looking good. Today I looked at the tank from the side glass and that same coral looks to be bleaching froom the back side starting from the top. I have it all the way in the bot of my tank...

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Yup.

If you can get a macro shot that would help.

Only if the tissue is truly missing from the white areas.

You can also try using super glue gel and covering the white skeleton exposed areas all the way up to the tissue, use a Q-tip.

Some corals do RTN, or slow tissue necrosis for no explainable reason.

Check your paramaters, make sure your ATO if you have one is not draining into the area by the coral and you are not dosing next to the coral.

I don't have an ato unfortunately but I did top off near him. My trates are at 2 and everything else 0 I'll be buying a calcium test this week. I use rodi also. I think I'll leave it be and see what happens Monday. If it is even worse, I'll frag it into three and sell two of them to my lfs. If it looks better, I'll just keep it.
