Is it really Acropora abrotanoides?

Got this browned out acropora for $40. It looked like an abro(tanoides) so of course I had to jump on that, despite being brown. What do you guys think? a. abrotanoides? a. robusta? some other acropora?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Acropora robusta is my guess.

    Good price, congrats.

Could be and abro, but I'll tell you this...once it loses it's red/green color, it doesn't come back.

Thanks, my understanding is a. robusta is MUCH easier to keep than a. abrotanoides
I've seen a couple people talk about buying browned out abro's, on average taking 3-6 months to get color back. You have an abro in your tank right? do you have pictures?

Nah, I've lost both that I have had...one to an Alk dosing malfunction (controller), and one slowly to a bactierial infection (guessing, as it was the only acro affected). I've read some people that were able to color back up, but none of those had before/after pics.

Very true, no documented evidence. How long did you have them for? no pics of them at all?

I see some green on the tips of the coralites and the growth tips are a shade lighter red/pink than the rest of the browned out body. Who knows.

Still a nice abro. I'm thinking mine is an abro and not a robusta because of the lack of an encrusting base, but we shall see.

Do you know of anyone else that has one on the site?

I don't know of anyone else. It is a very hard species to keep. Very few last a year.
