It is a dry heat, yeah right !

    Huge problem !

I would have never guessed they spawned that often. The fact that they eat anything that will fit in their mouth is also disturbing.

    Thanks for sharing.

I'm pretty sure they're having the same exact issue in Hawaii now, too.

I haven't seen anyone talking about whether the volitans flesh is tasty or not. Has anyone else heard?

I think my lion just heard me say "volitans and recipe" in the same sentence..... he's looking at me sort of unsure right now :)

"One potential solution is to promote the fish as food for another voracious predator: man. Lionfish are considered excellent eating. Indeed, after the lionfish derby here, participants feasted on fried lionfish nuggets.

“They taste a lot like hogfish,” says Mr. Dugan of the Lion Hunters. “They’re really good.” "

Oh hell.... now I want to try one.....

Maybe we should promote them for Thanksgiving. They are, after all, also known as the Turkey Lion.

Look for lionfish threads in the Environmental forum. I believe I posted one with recipes too. Apparently they taste good.

There's an article in last months issue of Reader's Digest on the problem in Florida. The author was able to go along on a capture of a big Volitan which was later cooked and eaten by the crew. No recipe in the article but she did say it was the sweetest tasting, flakiest fish she has ever eaten.

Wow, i haven't heard anything about this at all. I believe the Sphex is the only real lionfish we have in the islands and the LFS very very rarely have one because they are so rare, so when they do get them they are pricey. I'm gonna have to look into this.
