Instant Ocean Sea Salt SUCKS!

I've been mixing ~5 gallon of saltwater for the better part of 3 days and my salt has yet to dissolve! for real? my other salt mixed in minutes. I have a Powerhead and an air stone in there and i still see salt chillin on the bottom of the bucket. what do i do? i need to do a water change soon and by the looks of it ill be able to do it just in time for Christmas..

 

is it old salt? I had a similar issue with some old salt that I had. I ended up buying a new bag and it is mixing in just fine. At least its cheap right?

just use your hand and start mixing... thats what i do.

 

is the salinity where you want it? if it is just use it you wont lose that much salt.

 

I have instant ocean reef crystals and have never had any trouble mixing it at all with just a large plastic spoon.

 

I used instant ocean in a emergency but it wasnt to bad. Is the water you are mixing heated to 78 someone posted the other day about salt and mixing.

 

I have had the same problem with IO, I have been using reef crystals for about 6 months and it mixes within minutes.

 

I used IO for 15 years. I suspect the salt is just old.

 

Yeah im gonna go with it being old. Looks like someones going to a different fish store tomorrow and gettin new salt.. lol. I appreciate the input. I had reef crystals before this and was very pleased. im just gonna see if i cant get some more.

 

I haven't tried reef crystals. I've always used Instant Ocean and works like a charm. I also do keep it in an air tight jar made to store liquids.
