I'm looking for the old salts here... How do you keep your phyto and zooplankton populations high and diverse?
I have considered starting a phyto population and then also starting a brine shrimp population so I can harvest the young a few hours after hatching. But seems like a TON of extra work

So what do you guys do?

The problem is pumps, the rotors kill most plankton.

So I usually supplement with tetraselmis, and baby brine shrimp also works, however it is mostly just for feeding fish

Sorry but that simply is not true. People LOVE to say that, its simply not true. The limiting factors for a good zooplankton population i aquaria is predation and food.

That's what I thought Gresham, thank you.
But while you're here... Do you guys have any live products that are easy to keep a culture alive that would help diversify my tank a bit?
