Hello 3REEF, I have this growth which I thought was red algae, but this is attached to the rock and does not flake off to the touch. It's attached and holding on strong.

Is this good for my tank. It has been growing now for some time. Since joining the forum I have seen some awesome tank set-ups and have yet to see a tank with any live rock in this color or with this growth. Which brought some concern. So any tips or info would be nice.

Tank has been up for two and half years now.

    Thanks

Rub it with your finger tip.

Soft, slimy and wipes right off = cyano bacteria

Doesn't wipe off and takes a bit to scrape it off w/ your fingernail = maroon colored coralline.

Looks like red coralline algae to me as well. I have some red coralline that looks exactly like that on a rock that my GSP's are on.
