SO I ordered 45lbs of Fiji Premium LR. It came today all nice and sealed in it's styrofoam crate. I open the crate and the 45lbas is split between two rocks. Has anyone else taken hammer/chisel to their LR or should that be a "no-no?"

    There's a poll....vote :D

you can either take a hammer and screwdriver to break it up, or if it is dense enough you can just drop it outside in the concrete and breaks up nicely. I have done that many times. The broken part will color up nicely fairly quickly

A masonry bit works well too.. if you need to drill holes. Some people drill holes to put acrylic rods through ... for mounting stability or I used industrial zip ties to attach to PVC. Usually there's natural holes but sometimes ya need a hole in the right spot.

Well We just recently moved in here so I had a bit of trouble locating the tools for the job. I settled with a flathead screwdriver(ended up being too small) a hammer and a small axe ::) Did the trick. There are some straight lines on the rock now from chiseling (or axe and hammering) and the handsaw which I don't care for but that will fill in with algae I presume. Anywho, I'll have my hand at aquascaping once the water clears a bit for me to see well enough!!!! Woo Hoo!!

So right now I just have the filter running to clear the water although I don't know if I should even bother running it yet..... What says 3reef?

Even though the boulders didn't make me happy they came with some beautiful coralline algae. Gorgeous hues of light and dark purples, greens, maroon and yellow. Overall I must say I'm pretty pleased!!
