    Hello all;

    I need your help!

I have been reading this forum for several months now and I leaned a lot. I am fascinated by corals but they are a few that really have taken my attention. For a year I have been looking for a red Montipora that was larger that the 1” frag that we find and finally last week I found a 7” colony.

She arrived beautiful and healthy and could hardly believe my eyes. She was acclimated carefully to the quarantine tank.
24 hours later a noticed a little bleaching on a tip. Within 72 hours the bleaching was 1/2” and I could see the light brown color developing. From all the books and specially your posts, I knew it was necrosis.

Since I have in hand all the medication that you have mentioned in your posts as a prevention, I fragmented the bleached area and dipped the Monti in Seachem Reef dep.
She was very upset and releasing a lot of mucus. This was yesterday evening.

This morning it was bad, bleaching and necrosis on several tips. Again I really fraged like crazy
Removed any weak plates, brushed her and dipped her this time in Kent Lugol’s solution and brightwell Aquatics MediCoral.

She is releasing lot mucus and loosing her red color to a dull light green.

What else can I do, or watch for. Please I need to save this coral.

Moved her to the Seahorse tank
    PH 8.0
    Nitate 0
    Nitrite 0
    Phosphate 0.5
    Cal460
    KH ppm 53.7
    Salinity 1.025
    Temp 76

It houses 3 juvenile seahorses, 1 adult, a large open brain coral and Ricordia’s, the Corals are doing very well. In addition it has 1 cleaner shrimp and a red scooter dragonet for 1 year now.

    Thank you in advance.

slow down here chief, white on the ends of a monti are usually signs of growth. and when they go brown it is likely the lack of intense lighting. or due to the chemical dip you just did.

give us some tank specs like size/type of lights. and placement of this coral

I read your post but didn't see any reference as to the type of flow that is in the tank. I realize sea horses need lower flow environments, but sps corals simply don't thrive in those types of conditions. They need a lot of flow, moderate to high is always recommended. Also, what type of lights do you have over the tank? You could have either light shocked him if it's too much light, or he is browning out and receeding from lack of light/flow. Can you get a picture?

Correct the Seahorse tank has a little powerhead and the lights are nothing special.
The Coral is a Red Montipora Capricornis.

The quarantine tank where she originally was placed at arrival at mid level

    PH 7.8
    Nitrate 0
    Nitrite 0
    Phosphate 0
    Cal 300
    KH 12
    Salinity 1.023
    Eheim 2213 Filter
    Koralia 2 powerhead
    20 pounds of live rock
    Backpack 2 skimmer
Lighting it is a double strip 50 watt fluorescent

It houses a recovering Pagona cup coral got her sick from the dealer
    A temperamental Toadstool coral.
A flame angle fish and a cleaner wrasse.
Water changes every week 3 gallons.

I don’t have a picture, I am out of batteries but I will get it later in the afternoon.

The seahorse tank she is in now

    Hello again;

Here are the pictures as promised.
I moved her to the display tank.
    60G
    PH 8.0
    Nitate 0
    Nitrite 0
    Phosphate 0.5
    Cal 460
    Salinity 1.025
    Temp 76
    4 Koralia Powerheads
    UV Sterilzer 24w
    Eheim Pro II filter
    Nova Extreme T-5 Fixtures
    Bak-pak skimmer

Position middle of the tank, half is exposed to full light the other half is protected by the
    Toadstool coral.

She turned green now but she is not releasing any mucus.

Let me know if I have to move her closer to the light and to full exposure.

    Thank you .

You can leave it where it is. From the looks of it, it has passed on.

Leave it in for now, and it might possibly come back, but I doubt it.

    Sorry. RTN sucks.

If you do find any pieces of the coral that are still alive, frag it.

let it go and give it some time. It will likelly be OK. Im sure it came from a tank with higher lighting so its going to brown out some.

EDIT: Nevermind! Just noticed it used to be red. I think shes a goner.
