I am a newbie here but not new to FW fishkeeping. I have a 35g SW tank now that holds 2 O. clowns, 1 pink spot prawn goby and a cleaner shrimp. I have live rock and sand and a sebea anemone. I dont have ich but my question is this........in my freshwater fish you can rid the fish of ich but its still in the tank. We use meds to kill them. However in SW with soft corals and live rock and sand how do you rid the whole tank of ich ? I dont have ich now this is merely a what if scenario.......:)

the only sure fire way is to remove all your fish from the DT for at LEAST 6 weeks and let the parasites die off from the tank and treat your fish with hypo-salinity or copper meds in a separate tank for the parasites on the fish..or prevent it all together and quarantine every new addition

the best way is to do hyposalinity which slowly brings salinity down to 1.009 it makes the ich go... pop!

the other good ways of handeling it are giving the fish garlic and vitamins in the food. parasites dont like garlic and vitamins boost the fishes immune system.

they do happen to have reefsafe ich cures, but they hardly ever work.

Best way to do it is using hypo as its easy on the fish, and dont risk bringing any copper back into your display tank. QT tank all setup and ready to help you is less than the cost of a UV filter and/or a few treatments of ICH medication.
