I have a xenia coral and it has been growing like a weed.. I heard of trimming it but I don't know how to go about that with out killing it... Also, their is another type of coral in the middle of the xenia (it came that way) and its a tree looking thing I don't know what it is.. anyways, the tree looking one looks like its dieing.. It's all white and really shriveled up.. I don't know how to get it out of the middle of the xenia to save it or can it still be saved..? We have had the coral for about 4 months... We are running a compact fluorescent 165 wat for our 26gal tank.. All our levels check out to be fine.. Hear is some pictures.. these are about 2 months old though.. the coral has almost doubled in size.. Also, you can kind of see the tree one I was talking about.. I will try to post a current picture tomorrow with the dieing coral..

If it is kenya tree/bush, it is not a bad thing that it is dying. They are great at first, but when they take over your tank, they are not so great.

As for cutting back the xenia's just snip the tops like a plant but get all the snippings out or they will become new pest and not being able to see the one in the middle ? Could be any number of corals ? Just snip it off at the base to relocate late it from the rock its now own , Take a small bowl and fill it with some rock rubble and lay the cutting's in that setting on the tanks bottom the snipping will attach to a little rock after the coral attach's then just crazy glue that little rock to a larger rock. You have to get all the xenia snipping out or they wall also take over the tank..

I became very intimate and familiar with that stuff when it took over my old 90 gallon. :)

i got me an oeulphyllia to keep it at bay! works like a gem! I have been experimenting with using more noxious corals to keep other pest/fast growing corals from over running a tank. For what it is worth...fire coral does not do a thing to aiptasia :)

Only coral I ever have seen to have any effect on the aptasia was an elegance or a carpet anemone :)

could you share any pleasant experiences with the coral

Correct amundo I just glanced at it and it looked a little like that tall leggy stuff we had taking over the tanks at the shop once , But after opening that photo larger yep and it looks like a colt in the middle hard to really tell as the anthellia has it in a world of hurt :) Its just trying to live one more day.

But either one will over run a system..
