this is a world wide custom IME
As a 17 year old stores assistant, I was asked by the Stores Supervisor to go to the warehouse and as for the "long stand"

I went, I asked, the Warehouse lad said , "sure, hang on, Ill go and get it for you"

it took me about 30 mins before I walked away, not I might add because I knew I had been "had" but because I was anxious about being gone so long

I went back and said "I dont think the warehouse people can find it"

he then explained I had in fact recieved it, and what it was.


the other one was scarier
the factory was 4 floors, and they told me as part of my job was to clean the outside of the windows on a monthly basis. and for this I needed to go and collect the harness from Bill on the top floor , they explained that Bill would help me, I would wear the harness, climb out of the window and Bill would hold the rope and lower me down so I could clean the windows on the floors below

I was 17, married, with a daughter
I was scared witless, but I went up to see Bill
and Bill very quickly informed me I had once again been "had"

Indeed it is, Steve. It might vary depending on your geography, as does the item, based on the profession, but it's universal for sure.

As a beginning apprentice, my foreman sent me to the materials area to ask for a "wire stretcher." My foreman was so deadpan and blank-faced serious; he had me. So badly had was I, infact, that I tried to convince the materials fellow that such a device did exist, and my foreman wouldn't have sent me for something if it was simply a joke. Well it was a joke; and for the next few weeks, so was I.

I never fell for the bulb-bender, though. That's just too silly.

 

Hahah. Nice. I don't get it with the "light black paint" or the "prop wash" though. lol.

 

HAHA. Well if anyone says they've never had evil fun with a loved one they're probably a liar. Besides I hope you're not crediting the creation of the gag to me, I had to learn it myself at one knieve point of my youth.
