Hey all, I'm going to make a DSB on my 66 gallon tank. I want to buy the sand today, an I want to use pool filter sand. I want a 5" sandbed (open to change if someone mentions a better depth) and I need to know how much sand to buy! The tank is 38" long and 21" wide. Thanks guys..::)

Nooooo!!!!! DSB are totally not worth the risk IMO. A 3" looks soooo much better.

But you'll probably need like 120lbs.

Thanks cosmo! What do you think about the sandbed? How deep?

Mattias, ive heard to do 2-3 or 5-6. No 4" for sone reason.

Also, do jawfish need different sized san all mixed?

Ya know bro, I used to be very anti DSB , but I've read alot of great things about them and actually very few bad things! They can be a pain if disturbed and crash the tank, but they also have alot of benefits!

Personally I'd stick with a 1-2" but wouldn't blame ya for 5-6"! I think they say 5-6 over a 4 because it's harder to disturb the deep parts where the nasties grow!

[IMG]No don't mix sand. The two sizes will seperate. I started with sugar sand and 2mm grain San and they separated within a month.

Interesting, thanks guys!! I dunno, i might just do a 3. I really domt want to be paranoid about say a rock fallig and the sand getting kicked up.

Just wanted to let ya guys know, the glass hood on my tank broke today!! Im using screen right now. It like split and fell in the tank, thankfully we were holding it.
