how much live sand

    in an 11" by 12" space how much live sand is needed in bags from the store to get 6" in height? thank you.

    You would need about 1/2 cubic foot, since each company uses different sized bags, it's hard to say how many. If the cu. ft. is not listed on the bag, the people at the lfs should be able to help you.

    I wouldn't use live sand, you are paying for water. Buy dry sand and then add a cup or two of sand from your display tank to start your biological filtration.

    I just checked with CaribSea and they said that a 40lb bag of their "Original Size" sand in about 1/2 Cubic Foot.
