Lets skip over the sand bed debates... ;)

How many pounds of sugar sized sand will give me 1.5" in a standard 90g tank?

    Dimensions (LxW) are 48"x18"

Also, I am planning on buying dry sand and will be seeding it with sand from my current tank. Can I simply rinse the new dry sand with RO/DI and put it in the new tank? Or should I let it soak? Any other advice would be appreciated (i.e. use saltwater, vinegar, etc.)..

Are you sure about this number?

This calculator said about 60 lbs. Anyone other opinions?

I'd go with the calculator's recommendation.

Soaking the sand would allow it to become saturated with freshwater, causing problems with stabilizing your SG for the first few days. You only need to rinse off the dust.

Thanks yet again for your help! I am clearly preparing for a new tank!! I have the most expensive parts down (i.e. tank, lights, dry rock, return pump, and even the coral!) Its just the extra powerheads, sand, heater(s), and some other miscellaneous things that I am scrambling to gather up before the big move! You will probably see another thread here and there..

I got agramax sand from pets mart and just filled a five gallon bucket with ro water and poured it in to rinse it off. I did this about 4 times doing about 20 lbs of dry sand. then I took and rinsed it with saltwater 2 times and it cleaned up perfect hardly and cloudyness.

as for the debth I would do about 70 Lbs then work up from there if you need to
