I got a RO/DI unit before I set my tank up and it was the greatest investment for the tank. I used RO/DI water from the start and I never had an algae bloom of any sort. I still don't know what an "algae bloom" look like (heard about it, tho). :)

Use it from the start, I garantee you won't be sorry!

Tap Water Poll...i Can't Post Reply

K, I've Been Using My Tap Water Of Course Conditioned And These Are My Readings:

    Ammonia 0
    Nitrites 0
    Nitrates 0
    Ph 8.3
    Alk Normal
    Sg 1.023

And I Have No Algae At All Except Purple, Blue And Pink On My Lr. I Want An Ro/di Unit But It Will Have To Wait As My $$$ Is Depleted. May Have To Buy It But I Need To Find A Place Around Here. My Lfs Doesn't Use It Or Sell It.

You need an r.o. unit. You need it more than you need the 10 extra pounds of live rock that you mentioned getting in your other thread. Just because you don't have any algae now doesn't mean that you're not headed for problems down the road. OK, that's the last I've got to say on the subject because I'm starting to feel like a nag :)

As of about 3 weeks ago I am using RO. I am doing as amcarrig said and performing weekly changes.
I am noticing a HUGE decrease in algea on my tank walls.
