how do you pickout the best clam?????

    I am thinking about getting a clam. My question is when your at the LFS and they have 10 clams there what do you look at to pick the healthiest one. I have been doing some reading and understand that you want one that reacts (closes up quickly) when something disturbs it. also looking for tears on the mantle is a must. Anything else I should be looking for?

    like stated looks for pinched mantle, pyramid snails, gaping intake syphon, byssale threads hanging, not moving when a shadow is cast on it. besides that it should be healthy.
