How big of a sump do i need??

    Hi guys im setting up a 30 gallon reef and fish tank i would like to now how big of a fuge do i need? I was thinking i could use a big HOB filter used for fresh water ass a light on the back of if add some live rock and chaeto and call it good to what do you guys think?

    for the money you could do a 10 gallon, but that would work but it really would have to be a big HOB filter to make it worth your while IMO

    Depends on how big your stand is. I have a 29g sump on my 30g tank.

    ^^^ I would go with a 29 alot of space for a big skimmer and alot of cheato, lr, mangroves

    The bigger the better. Do it as big as you can.

    One of the things I've learned in this hobby, is not to compromise for the sake of saving a few dollars. Get the biggest sump you can afford to put under that tank, with the most space for what you want to put in it now, and what you will end up wanting to put in it later.

    I've heard of people turning old aquaclear 110's into HOB fuges. I'm sure anything is better than nothing, and the bigger you can go the better. Hope that helps lol.
