Hello everybody, I just got a green hammer coral and came with this little crab inside the rock. I wonder if it's reef safe? I just started putting corals in the tank, and I'm hoping to see them doing well and would hate for this cute clawy thing to eat them.

Here are some pictures. I currently chased him down the whole tank and put him in an ice cream bowl.

So.. is it reef safe? Can I put it back?

Sorry for the blurriness. Here's one more.

And I flip him over to look at his other side, here's how he looks:

Thanks in advance. I would like to put it back in the tank because it's kind of nice looking little crab. But I need to make sure he won't kill my snails, hermits, shrimps and MORE IMPORTANT, my newly introduced coral.

    - Magnus.

doesn't have hairy legs which is good, can't tell if the claws come to a point or are more flattened?

general rule of thumb is this: pointy claws= NO, blunt claws=possibly

Ok, I'm not able to get the little thing in focus, but maybe this will help a little:

Id toss em. Better safe than sorry. no distinguish features telling that hes a good one.

Ive had a bad experience with a bad crab in my tank and will have no problem tossing a crab next time... good or bad.

Actually the claws look very pointy now that I look at it attentively.
I think he'll be judge by the toilet gods here pretty soon. I don't wanna risk it.
LFS won't take the stuff back, their rule is:

"Whatever comes with the rock is now yours forever"

    We'll see about that! :(

Well, I hope that the movie Finding Nemo is right about this one and that all drains do lead to the sea..... there's no reef in TN river for this crab to pick at. But he's not in my tank anymore for being a bad hitch hiker.

PS: How do I change the "Unresolved" status to "Resolved" ?
