When one is setting up the Herbie Overflow plumbing is there a golden rule on having your pipes close together as I see in most pics.. Can I space apart the drains?

Thanks on all replies in Advance.

I don't have either one but I'm looking into the herbie since my 56 drilled is in my bedroom. But I understand that that the herbie has 1 drain & an emergency drain & then outside of overflow box is the return, for each overflow box. If I'm reading right of what you want to do, then your return is in your overflow box. I don't see how that would work.

    Yes.

I have a dual overflow 125. One drain in each corner with a gate valve on each to control flow/water level. Then I have my return (from sump) in the left and emergency dry in the right.

-Since I have 2 drains, I made sure my 1 emergency dry could handle all the flow of the return pump just in case.

Thanks all. I just didnt know if they had to be holes drilled right beside each other is all. My tank is drilled but for another style of overflow I have tried but failed me in the noise department. to make the Bean animal overflow to work with me is to drill another hole in the middle of my returns. I was either thinking to use loc line to go from the overflow box where my return holes are already or using a bulkhead from my main glass on to my overflow box to another bulkhead. Pics will show my tank.

    In the bottom picture,

It looks like it already has the 'bean animal' sytle of overflow- which is still a good thing!
All the returns are already there, etc.
Did you get a new tank like that, or is that your build, either way, looks awesome!

    What size is that?

OK, so I think I see now.

Your tank is the top pic, and the bottom pic is?

Top pic is mine, bottom pic is a pic I found with one of the ideas i was thinking because of my returns will be in the overflow box.
