Didn't mean to high jack the thread with my question, sorry.
i disagree ...when fish are stressed they get sick stocking levels do have to do with the compatibility of the fish.
as far as suffocate when power goes off... suffocation hasn't happened, i have been threw power outages. you add a battery operated air pump to the tank...simple fix
I see your calcium is about 100ppm low. What is your magnesium at? These levels being off could actually be your issue.
Bottom line is just because you do it does not mean it is good advice. Our tanks hold much less O2 than people think. Salinity, temperature and altitude all effect what saturation level is. Contrary to what some think, their tanks are not always saturated. I don't see the benefit of over crowding and battery backups just to have a few more fish.
A+ Well said
battery back ups are a good idea no matter how many fish you have!!!!! and as far as advice, i was asked about it. and yes i do have all those fish in my tank and have had most of them since the start of this tank and feel picking fish wisely is a key, stress kills fish. i also feed 2 to 3 times a day...do you have a problem with that too????
Why don't we get back to the issue at hand.
my tank is less then 3 months old I dont need to be testing mag yet.
Since Magnesium keeps your ALK. and Cal. stable you should be testing for it. No matter how old your tank is you like everyone else is suseptible to a bad batch of salt or changes in your tanks chemistry. Just a good idea in general.
When the op asks about stoking levels in his thread it is on topic
I never said fish getting along were not important. However you are only looking at one side. You think just because your fish are not killing each other that that is the end all be all answer to whether your stocking level is appropriate. You can dump 40 of the best behaved fish in your tank and large number of them would suffocate and die... Power and all.
Don't be so sensitive. I think you have a great tank and keep a nice reef... But if you are going to advise someone to overstock, you should at least give the whole story. And if you choose to do that, the least you can do is get an O2 kit and see for yourself that your life support system is providing what the inhabitants need. Just trying to help.... Just like you.
