So we just bought a flame scallop and the first few days it was fine, it moved into an empty shell and is now dead. What we're trying to figure out is why...did our hermit crab who is pretty aggressive get to him or poor water flow...it was our first scallop and we want to try again..any suggestions. It's a 35 gallon hexagon

Flame scallops are a bivalve and cannot switch shells like hermit crabs do.

They are a challenging animal to keep in a small tank. They not only require a lot of phytoplankton and zooplankton, it has to be of the correct size. (You would have to have a protein skimmer rated for a 75 gallon tank to remove the amount of excess food needed for this animal to not starve, nor turn the tank into a mass of green algae).

    Agreed with Inwall75.

They are very difficult to keep for long in our systems. I've only heard of a few long term stories.
