I have an 80gal with 80lbs live rock. I had a near complete extinction. I lost a puffer/lion/clown/yellow tang/ blue tank/ mandarin gobi/ niger trigger/and a couple of odds and ends. I have a couple of snails, a few hermits and one Pajama Cardinal that survived. I completely cleaned out the tank and started over about 4 weeks ago. I have since had a small brown algae issue that is now taken care of however I have a growth in my live rock that looks like small cotton balls with some kind of tentacles flowing out from them. They are multiplying at a pretty good pace and are white in color. Any ideas on what this is?

    Thx

typically "Cotton ball" would lead me to thing a sponge of some sort. But the tentacles and population explosion has me stumped

So do you know why you suffered a total fish loss?

thank you all for the input. I hope tp take a picture soon because they are multiplying and I am not sure if it is something good or bad. Picture a tiny bird egg shape with soft little spines all over. They grow in holes in the live rock like a spider web would look like at first or a small pocket of white mold. Then they grow into small little egg shaped creatures with the spines varying in length, somewhat like a soft little white eurchin, about the size of your fingertip, and then attach on the outside of the live rock after awhile.
