    Interesting hmmm.

So is this the only sps you currently have, and if not is this the only sps affected?

If it does indeed resemble a mite of some sort, Interceptor would probably be effective.

In you decide it is an arthropod of some sort and want more information regarding possible treatment let me know. If this is only affecting one type of coral, birdsnest then you may just want to not keep birdsnest for several months.

Thanks for adding the pictures and detail to the post it really helps.

I am just going to assume that all parameters are in line.

Well amphipods will eat decaying tissue of just about any coral. They may look like they are the cause of the damage when in actuality they are merely cleaning up.

    amphipods - Google Search

What type of flow was the corals under. IME I had the most issues with birds nest secondary to flow issues.

I'd agree, they're most likely amphipods taking advantage of the dead tissue. I had changed my flow a couple of weeks ago and apparently it was a little too much for the birdsnest. The other SPS were lovin' it, but some of the flesh peeled off of the BN.

If the Ca number is correct that is why your coral is dying, you need to get your Ca above 380. You should only increase your Ca by 50ppm per day. What is your Mg number? You should have that above 1250. You can raise Mg by 100ppm per day.
