Tomorrow I get to experience the joy of moving my aquariums..

A 55g planted FW with 1 angel fish, 4 bloodfin tetra, 4 black tetra. decent amount of plants, 4-5" of 4yr old plant-gravel,

A 29g Biocube w 10g fuge. Has 1 clown, 1 blenny, 1 pseudochromis, 1 RBTA, lots of Euphyllia spp. 3" light sandbed that is nearly 4 years old

Should I just dump all gravel? and try to save 50% fw and 80% sw?

How am I going to move my corals, and not tear them to shreds during transport?

    Ty 3reef friends

Rubbermaid totes, garbage cans, or 5 gallon buckets. I never try to reuse old substrate mainly to save time. You will be busy enough. Good luck!

rubbermaid totes for sure. Try to use all the water and none of the substrate on that reef tank.

how far are you moving? I've never kept a planted tank so I can't help on that one. I wouldn't worry about keeping 80% of the water but I'm weird with water, I did try to keep a good amount of it when I changed tanks but for a move, I'd check that much off the list and keep maybe 50%. I'd also pitch the sand and start with new for the reef.

Thanks for the responses. It will be safe to just mix new water and add fresh substrate? [does it need to be live sand?]

I can keep a cup or so of my own sand to help the cycle

Im tempted to try bare bottom, but I would feel bad for the worms and nassis in my sandbed.

we also have a turtle, but she will be easy

Either live or dry sand is fine. Just be sure to rinse the dry sand thoroughly
