I need to replace my bicolor blenny. The blenny's job is primarily to eat the little bit of algae I get on my HOB pipes, powerheads, etc that my snails don't reach.

So I require a blenny that will eat this stuff. I know red lip and bicolor blenny's will but want to try something different.

These are the ones I am looking at and want to know if any one has any insight to any of these specific blenny's as it relates to the above.

I do not have enough algae to sustain a lawnmower blenny. If one of these is on par w/a lawnmower, it should be ruled out... but it's hard to tell from the descriptions really what can live off just a little natural growing algae and otherwise take the fish food like my bi color use to do. So looking for experiences w/these species.

At moment, I'm leaning towards the Redspot, Tailspot, midas, forktail or striped.

I only plan on getting one of these.

Thanks for any insight on these.

    I have:

    Canary
    Striped
    Yellow Tail

The canary and striped won't touch algae. They hunt the rock all day for little critters.

The Yellow Tail, is a drabber version of a bi color and does eat algae as well as whatever I feed.

To be completely honest, I'm not 100% if my bicolor was actually a yellow tail. I always see them both marked as "bicolor" at my LFS and not really certain how to distinguish.

Just so we're clear on what I'm looking for here...

I am not looking for which fish folks think looks the neatest or whatever. I'm looking for actual experience on if the listed fish will *probably* do the task I need it to do.

So if you're just looking at the links/pics and picking the one you think looks the best... not what I'm looking for this time...

For example, according to the website, all the ones listed will eat algae but jonjonwells gave great feedback and essentially ruled a couple out for me.

    Thanks and bump ;)

Do you (or did you) have one? Will it eat algae growing in the tank?
