Ok, I have been fighting this algae for over 6 months. Nothing i can really do to make it go away. I really need to figure out why it wont stop! I have been doing weekly 15% water changes, running carbon and GFO, siphoning out excess algae, trimming chaeto, and blasting rocks with a lot of flow. No matter what i do it wont go away. This stuff is killing me.

    My params are all fine:

    Ammonia 0
    Nitrate 0
Phosphate .03 (Tested with Hanna Colorimeter)
    Calcium 400
    Alk 8
    Magnesium 1350

Here are some pics to give you an idea. The only thing i could think of is the rock or the sand bed causing this. Doesn't there have to be a source for it to get nutrients from? I only have 1 fish and i barely feed. Other fish died (never found them) because i was trying to feed to little to make this damn algae go away. I would really appreciate if someone could help me get to the bottom of this.

Wish I could help you. I have some in my tank, and I can't get rid of it either. It is some weird stuff that is for sure.

On the other hand, your SPS look great.

What is your circulation in gph and your tank size? Do you skim wet or dry? Do you rinse your frozen food before putting it in the tank?

Now that 2in10 brought up tap water, that could be the case!

I am in the same boat here. I am very slowly gaining control of mine. My chaeto is growing extremely fast and I pull 2 big handfulls out every week. I believe mine is due to my RO/DI filters going bad and the TDS going up to around 34. I didnt catch it in time and probably added 60 gals of bad water to the tank. It takes time so dont get to frustrated with it just try and stay on top of it and you will evently win the battle.

Im using ASM G3 protein skimmer, phosban reactor with High Capacity GFO, carbon bag in Sump and a filter sock.

Clean up crew might be on the light side. Im not sure of about exact numbers but i would guess i have around 20 astrea snails, 50 or so hermits, 10 nassarius snails, 2 queen conch.

I could probably get 30 more astreas to help but i doubt thats the real problem here.

    That's a pretty decent CUC.
