    My first thought was that you are over amping the timer – you are no where near what it can handle. Sounds to me that you have a bad timer / strip. Do not get rid of the GFI – that’s a bad idea – sorry it was suggested. If you have another timer laying around try it in place of the strip and see if it functions correctly – this will verify if the strip is faulty.

    Some times the initial ‘on’ can trip some strips since the draw can be large.
