Alright I did exactly what I said I was not going to do yesterday...I bought a new fish without researching it. The owner of the LFS told me somethings about it, but I did not do my homework and impulsed buy.

I was told it was a motherly blenny...pretty sure that is what I was told:confused: Anyway I went home with my new fish and got on the net to see if I could find any info and could not.

I was told that this is a more rare fish in aquarium trade, so of course I had to have it..Plus it is so ugly it is cute.

It kind of looks like a flying gurnard, which I had, but it is not that. It does not use its "wings" to swim. It seems like it uses it little sword on the back of his head to help direct it. It also has 2 "leg" like things by its mouth that I thought were whiskers but he uses to walk on sand. The eyes are definately the eyes of a blenny.

So here are some bad pictures...hope you can help ID

And when he sleeps or is not swimming around, he is buried under the sand with only his 2 eyes sticking out

I dont know maybe it is a gurnard???

looks like it would be in the same family...just not a pretty as the picture mine is brown color but there is some purple on the bottom. I am going to try to get better pictures when he comes out to play again. He was so active swimming around this mornng that I could not get a good shot.

What type of fish is the one in the picture...def a close relative, maybe different sex

its definately a dragonet of some sort - not a blenny.
But as stated its too blurry to make out the actually species.

It's a finger dragonet. Google them, you'll find all sorts of pictures, in a variety of colors.
