help green hair alge

i just found more green hair alge starting to pop up in my tank again. what can i do? i lost this battle once already where i just gave all my old rock away and bought all new rock. today i find the stuff growing on some of my corals. i cant go though this again. i use ro/di water all the test i do so that every thing is in spec's theres no phospates or anything bad showing up in my test.

 

you can try some phosphate buffers. do you have any mexican turbo snails in you tank? those guys can really much the stuff...if they have the taste for it

 

i had the same problem, i cleaned it all out, and cut back the time my lights were on. you might give that a go..

 

I'm not sure if it is possible for you, but can you try UV sterilization?

 

You have got a ton of light what is your photo period?
What is the TDS of your RO/DI water?
Do you have any pics of the algae in question? Some are easy to get rid of than others so it help to know what you are fighting. Also you might want to start slowly moving away form the wet-dry I am almost sure it is helping the problem. The thing is with a ton of light and a growing algae problem alot of the time the test kits won't show much. I am slowing winning my battle against the green monster but during the tank worse days even when I had 50% algae coverage the test never showed any ammonia or nitrate ever. But it stand to reason with all of those plants in the tank there would not be any free nitrogen float around.
I am thinking you should switch the Wet/Dry over to a refuge with a DSB.

 

And what media do you have in your 404.

 

i do use a seachem's phosphate gaurd.
i have a uv bulb inline on my ro/di system.
i have close to 100 turbo snails they just dont seem to care for the stuff anymore.
in the 404 i have carbon and phosgaurd.
my tds reading is 1.
my vho run about 10 hours and the mh run about 5.
the next thing im going to try is to build a refuge.

 

If you have a 100 turbo snails in a 75G and their not eating that algae you might have one of the odd ball algaes. Pics would be helpful but could you describe?
Is slimy or crunchy to the touch? Does it have any struture to it. There are some type of nuisance algae that are not going to be eaten by the usual suspects.

 

its slimy to the touch. starts off looking like moss then just gets longer and longer and takes over the tank.

 

Pic would be helpful. Does your Tang eat it?
